Last week my husband and I went to a talk by Anita Moorjani. If you do not already know her, Anita healed herself from cancer following a near death experience. I was introduced to her via the video interview with Lilou Mace by Dr. Wayne Dyer at the I Can Do It conference in New York in 2011 – this is the video link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tjLouLHH-_I

Her story is very inspiring and since her experience, she has written a book and speaks to world-wide audiences on what she has learned. The messages she conveyed at the talk were of self-love, realising our magnificence and finding joy in every day.

For this post, I’d like to focus on self-love and how we can bring more of it into our lives.

Occasionally when I tell someone I love myself, or I speak to a meditation student and ask them if they love themselves, the person feels it is not right to love oneself and it is somehow egoistic or selfish.

I believe this is where a lot of people have the wrong perception of self-love. If we cannot love ourselves, we cannot express love or love others. It gives out the message that we are not good enough to be loved and also that others should not love themselves either. A world where there is no love is very cold and hostile and I have a feeling that most of us have felt this sometime in our lives and as you read this you may even be experiencing it at this present moment.

So self-love – What does it mean and how can you increase it in your life?

To me self-love is being authentic to yourself. Do you know what you like? Can you say yes to the things you want and no to the things you don’t want. How authentic are you in your life?

It is also caring about yourself. Do you give yourself time off to pamper and look after your physical self and your soul-self? What do you do?

Ways in which I care and love myself:

1. Daily meditations to ground and nurture my inner-self.

2. A weekly art class to nurture my creative self and give myself time-out of my business and home-life.

3. Walks by the sea to embrace nature and the elements – especially with the cold weather in Brighton, England at the moment.

4. Improving my ability to speak my truth and say no when appropriate and when the outcome does not resonate with my values.

These are just a handful of things I do -what does your self-care look like?

I look forward to hearing from you and continuing our journey of self-discovery together,
